What is the history of the Ferme du Parc?

What is the history of the Ferme du Parc?

How long has the Ferme du Parc existed?

The Ferme du Parc has dominated the small Roche valley for over 300 years.

Located on the banks of the Dendre, it has retained its agricultural identity and authentic character over time.

On the entrance porch, a Latin inscription still bears witness to its history:
""Pro Rore Et Aratro"" β€” By the dew and the plow.

Who built the farm?

The Ferme du Parc was built by the monks of the Abbey of Saint-Denis-en-Brocqueroie.

They designed a square farm, intended to function in self-sufficiency, where each building had a specific role in daily life.

How did people live on the farm in the past?

Each element of the domain had an essential function:

  • 🌊 The Dendre provided the water and the fish
  • πŸ•ŠοΈ The dovecote served as a source of food and communication
  • 🌾 The barn stored hay and straw
  • 🌾 The mill transformed the grains into flour
  • 🍞 The bakehouse was used to bake bread for the inhabitants

The farm functioned like a truly self-sustaining ecosystem.

What is the Ferme du Parc like today?

Today, the Ferme du Parc is still a working farm, but also:

  • a place to live
  • a reception area
  • an educational website
  • a place to stay with cottages on a farm

A living heritage that continues to evolve while respecting its history.
